Movie Review:

Cast: Sasikumar, Vijay, Bharani, Ananya, Neha, Abhinaya, Shanthini,
Ganja Karuppu

Direction: Samuthirakani

Production: Michael Rayappan

Music: Sundar C babu..

Wanna know the best quote on friendship? ‘Friends are someone who knows the heart in your song and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words’. Incisively, ‘Naadodigal’ centers on group of friends who polish this motif with a stunning version. Moreover, Sasi Kumar is keen on picking right scripts that revolves strongly on ‘Relationships’. When ‘Subramaniapuram’ spelled about betrayals and pitfalls of friendship and ‘Pasanga’ had a much equivalent appeal alike ‘Children of Heaven’. Here comes Nadodigal that ennobles the best friendships.

Sasi Kumar is brimmed with extraordinary appeal with onscreen presence. Perhaps, he has a unique charisma that carries off with audiences’ likeliness. Well, Director Samuthirakani does a marvellous directorial blending an interesting script with a gripping narration.

Set at the backdrops of Rajapalayam, the film revolves around three friends; Karunakaran (Sasi Kumar), a graduate of B.A. History anticipating for a Government job, Pandi (Kalloori fame Bharani) an unsuccessful youngster overwhelming with his own dreams and Chandran (Vasanth Vijay) ready to kick-start his business. Nallamma (Ananya) is deeply in love with her cousin boy Karuna while his sister Pavithra (Abhinaya) has great likeliness for his pal Chandran. Their lives are so elated like-in paradise and they’ve no worries ahead. But things take a twist of turn on Karuna’s friend Saravanan from Namakkal… This lad is the son of Ex-MP Sangvi who’s deeply in love with the city’s bigwig Palanivel Rajan daughter Prabha (Nivedha).

These friends come to the rescue mission of uniting the young couple. It’s a bittersweet mission as Karuna loses his eyesight temporarily, Pandian turns to be deaf while Chandran’s leg is disembodied. But they are gleeful for having extended a great aid in their nuptials. Nevertheless, they’re blown out of waters when the married couple is ready for divorce… Will they spare this annoying act of Saravanan-Prabha gearing up for second marriage?

Sasi Kumar steals the show with his top-notching performance. He emotes fantastically to all situations. Let it be his relented shades or the emotional outburst in penultimate sequences; he’s awesome. Much accordingly Vijay Vasanth delivers a stupendous act and Bharani steals the show. On the grounds of hilarious lines as well heart-touching moments, the actor has gone ahead in places. Anaya does justice to her role while Abhinaya has a long way to go. Ganja Karuppu deserves special mention for fantabulous comedy tracks.

Sundar C Babu’s musical score goes commendable especially with the number ‘Sambo Siva Sambo’ presented with best appeal. Cinematography has innovative placements adding to the touch of screenplay’s pace.

Director Samuthirakani starts-off with a delighting ambience later hop-skipping into a speedy tensed situation. Post-intermission, there’s a complete breakdown that looks quite ungratified for masses. But scenarios are shifted with a sudden twist in penultimate sequence.

On the whole, ‘Naadodigal’ has the best formulas of striking jackpot and top the charts of box office in forthcoming weeks....

Movie Review:

Cast: Ranjith, Sindhu Tolani, Vivek, Kanja Karuppu, Manobala, Thiyagu, Ilavarasu

Direction: Selvabharathy

Music: Deva.

Selvabharathy known for hilarious entertainers has come up with a movie that is a right mix of humour and emotions. It dwells on the special bonding shared between a mother and her son.

With Vivek at the scheme of things, he has managed to render a laugh-riot. Ranjith as Pasupathi is an apt choice for the lead role Ranjith has essayed the role with some comfort. Sindhu Tholani as Pasupathi's friend helps him in nursing his mother back to good health.

But the real scene stealer is Vivek. He plays a cop in a local station, who assists Pasupathi in his endeavors. Vivek's typical one-liners works out wonders in the movie. Shouldering a major burden in the movie, he has come up with a good performance after Sivaji.

Ranjith, leads his life for his mother. He comes from Rasakapalayam to Chennai to earn his livelihood. He meets Dass (Vivek), a constable.

After his acquaintance, he manages to gets the job of assisting the cops at the local police station. Pasupathi's heroics in pinning a criminal down result in rich rewards for Daas. He gets promoted as the local inspector. A sequence of events leads to Pasupathi's mother developing cardiac failure. In a bid to save his mother, Pasupathi runs around to arrange for money to meet the medical expenses. But fate comes in the form of a group of extremists, who hatches a conspiracy that lands Paupathi in prison. The movie ends on sentimental note with a touchy climax.

The rest of the cast includes Thyagu, Ilavarasu, Ganja Karuppu among others. Deva has composed the music, while Tajmal has handled the cinematography. Selvabharathy has managed to provide fun through the segments involving Vivek and Ranjith.

Amidst cliched mother sentiment stories, Pasupathi is different for it has a racy screenplay and sequences that are engrossing.

On the flip side, the director has lost the momentum in the second half. The screenplay has lagged down.

On the whole, the movie is enjoyable in parts thanks to Vivek.

Movie Review:

Who said commercialsm has overtaken realism in Tamil cinema? Amidst the flock of movies where the hero flex his muscles and utter punch dialogues and sings needless duets in exotic foreign locations, movies like Subramaniapuram, Paruthiveeran and Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu proved all hopes are not lost.

Director Sasi Kumar, who brought a whiff of fresh air to Tamil cinema with Subramaniapuram last year, has taken Kollywod a step above with his next production venture Pasanga. Striking a smooth balance between real and fantasy elements, Pasanga is rare in the sense it is for the children and by the children, which is convincing and clear from the word go.

After Mani Ratnam, who charmed the audience with Anjali, a healthy clean entertainer featuring children all the way almost two decade ago, debutant Pandiraj has managed to gather guts to do a movie that dwells on the physical and psychological emotions of children.

He has used the bigger canvas to capture the joy and emotions among the innocent children. But the filmmaker has not deviated from regular cinema, for the storyline is typical to run-of-the-mill stuffs. Two pitted against each other and keen to take revenge on one another. They cross and crisscross building up to a climax where the hero prevails over the baddie. But what is strikingly different in Pandiraj’s approach is that the whole story is set around a group of children. They make you laugh, cry and sulk in emotions.

The story unfolds in a dry barren village. Anbu (Kishore), the protagonist in the film comes across his bitter foe Jeeva (Sriram) on the first day of his school. Interestingly, Jeeva happens to be son of the headmaster Nithyanandam (remember the Kalloori professor).

The good-hearted Anbu tries to mend ways and befriend Jeeva. However, Jeeva is hell-bent on taking Anbu for task. Enters Manonmani (Dharini), who develops affinity towards Anbu raising between him and Jeeva. Anbu not only excels in his academics but also in various extra curricular activities, which only widens the rift.

The fight between Anbu and Jeeva results in a rift between their respective families.
However, in a twist to the tale, Meenakshi Sundaram (Vimal), Anbu’s uncle falls in romance with Sobikannu (Vega), the sister of Jeeva. Interestingly, the families get united as they agree for Meenakshi
Sundaram’s wedding with Sobikannu, much against the wishes of both Jeeva and Anbu. Did they unite or not forms the climax, which has been etched out by Pandiraj in a gripping manner.

What is praiseworthy is the director’s faith in casting all newcomers and extracting the best from them. The children, needless to say, have performed on screen like seasoned professionals. Whether it is Kishore or Sriram or Dharini, they are right there delivering right expressions.

Vega, who sizzled the screen in Saroja plays a rural belle. She looks apt for the role and proves that she can handle her role with ease. Watch out for the young Pandian, who as Pakkada, can give challenge to any of the contemporary Tamil film comedians.

James Vasanthan continues from where he left in Subramaniapuram. More than his songs, his background score sets up the momentum. Veteran singer Balamuralikrishna stamps his class in Anbaley Azhagagum Veedu. Premkumar, the cinematographer, has captured the lifestyle and culture of rustic, barren land of south Tamilnadu well.

All credits should go to Sasikumar, who has made a real bold attempt by producing such a film. It is simple, straightforward and scintillating. Hats off Sasikumar and Pandiraj.
